Which comes first...story or character?
With me, it is often character, and sometimes the most surprising revelations can happen in the middle of the story. I suppose that is part of why I find it almost impossible to outline.
What about the rest of you...where do you start? Story? Character? Maybe even setting?
I start with a character. Actually, it's more like two characters. Scenes flash through my mind all the time, but it's a really good argument that gets me interested in writing the whole story. Once I have that conflict (main conflict or not), I can start. :)
